Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
