The anticipation about the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve with a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
