This New Horror Film Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who enjoy the horror genre: Get comfortable with your partner and view Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like standard biological terror, but beneath Together exists a profound meditation about our choices in loving each other.

An Introductory Film Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, partners that have stayed together for ten years. United in marriage in reality in 2017, the two stars contribute a special spark to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The plot commences when Millie and Tim relocate from the big city to the countryside for Millie’s job. A commonly used story element, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the cliches cease. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their new home, a storm hits, and the two discover an underground cave. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence begins influencing the pair. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying of scares, interspersing elements of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) body horror, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes amidst something grotesque). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components expertly and presents them in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they skillfully illustrate numerous complexities to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is waning due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and distant from his network of friends. He fears the notion of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he can’t drive and needs Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie refrains from painting either of his characters the obvious villain.

The couple grapple with the kind of problems that arise in most partnerships a decade in. Fundamentally, they still love one another. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and open up at times. But beneath it all, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these fears of codependency and giving oneself over to another person, the symbolism never feels overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a perfect parallel to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights work together in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that unattached audience members have interpreted the film as a strong argument for staying single. Meanwhile, certain partners having disagreements found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could act as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply look at your other half and state, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can embark on today.

Together is streaming on the streaming service Hulu at present.
