Officers stated they were alerted by a individual who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police state initial examinations show the substance was likely human blood.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.

A high-ranking official commented the incident left him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.

"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
